Two Years On.........

 Two years ago, whilst trolling through a local branch of T.K.Maxx (T.J.Maxx in the US of A - but not sure why?) I spotted a duvet cover I really liked, nay, loved ! Only thing it was the wrong size, though they did have a couple of matching pillowcases on sale. Often the duvet cover and two pillowcases are sold as a "set", but this being "designer" everything was sold separately (to fleece the poor shopper! LOL) The "designer" in question was Twiggy, a 1960's supermodel ! who new she designed bed linen !! how does she have time, what with (I presume) very lucrative ongoing modelling career with Mark & Spencer !   

So I left it at that, but then, only a few days later, our lovely friend Lynne asked me if I fancied going with her the Kingston-on-Thames (quite a drive) to collect some lanterns for a job she was working on (Harry Potter, no less).... someone had spotted some aged and distressed looking ones in.... you guessed it ! the branch of T.K.Maxx there.  Quite a nice store it was too, and OMG they had "the" duvet cover !!  No pillowcases, but I thought, hey I know where there are some, so I rushed to the checkout, duvet cover and credit card in hand.

The very next day I go back to our local (Bromley) to get the pillowcases, to find there was only one left ! noooooooooooo! After some indecision I decided to buy the lone one, and hoped to find a second somewhere soon.... it was after all a discontinued fabric. I then spend the next two weeks finding every TKM around London near public transport and scouring their shelves..... to no avail ! In the end I search the 'net for one and find I can only buy it at full price plus a huge p&p charge, oh well, I order and pay for it, and the response comes back that they are checking for stock !  Before I get the answer I leave for a weekend in Leeds. On the Monday morning I have to drop off the hire car and have an hour to kill in Leeds city centre before my train leaves, and as I'm strolling through, there before me like the "Emerald City" is a brand, spanking, new TKM..... with "MY" pillowcases on a shelf.  The question I ask myself is, buy one in case the internet one fails to arrive, or buy two and end up with three, but then it could be four !!  As I'm driving myself insane I spot two "further reduced" ones - problem solved !  When I get back home the internet one has arrived, though it cost three times as much as the others all put together !

Change the bedding day arrives and I'm ready !!! But what's this, the duvet turns out to be "king-size" rather than "double" as labelled on the packaging (I'm sure!!).  I still put it on, but there seemed to be just so much fabric - a tent, a collapsed tent !!   I really wanted to bundle it all up, stamp up-and-down on it several times and then burn it !!!!

So it's laid at the bottom of the bed-linen pile in the cupboard for 2 years.... it's a light, summery pattern of line-drawn irises and wisteria in pale turquoise on a white background, so it's only in the spring and summer months I ever consider getting it out to do something with it.  The time it took me to make the alterations I think it needs were a nano-second compared to all my procrastination in buying white thread, getting up the enthusiasm and energy to get out the sewing machine,and actually doing it !

So, here it sits, waiting to be put on tomorrow to welcome home london1967  !!   (hope I measured correctly *mad laugh* !!)
