What a busy few weeks it's been....... not really sat in front of the computer for any length of time either................... !
This morning I heard of the latest "calamity" to befall our family, my eldest nephew, Oscar, is in hospital today, having been rushed there late last night after swallowing a dental plate with a tooth attached, it is only small but has stuck part-way in his esophagus and he is having emergency surgery to remove it. Hopefully not too much internal damage has been done, and he will be well enough to be home tomorrow. As luck would have it, he sat the last of his very important school examinations last Thursday, so has nowhere to go for the next few days.
My sister said she found the whole incident rather strange as, now he has turned 18 (and not a child anymore), he could sign all the patient papers required, and she had to leave him once he had been admitted to the ward. Also, in the early hours of the morning, walking with the hospital porter towards to ward, she realised it was just around the corner from another ward where our mother was just a few weeks ago (after her stroke) - we have since jokingly said that maybe we should get a small apartment there ! (and move the family in - just in case!).
I guess ice-cream will be on Oscar's menu for a few days..............

As it happens I am going up to Leeds this weekend on a family visit............................ And missing Pride London for the first time in a few years !
Talking of Leeds, here are a couple of photos I took last time I was there....

University of Leeds - the Parkinson Building opened in 1951 (a year older than me !)

The Mechanical Engineering Department entrance, I remember as a child it appearing ultra-modern !

And a detail of the Leeds Civic Hall
"Overlooking the Millennium Square, this building accommodates the Lord Mayor, City Treasurer and City Council. It was officially opened in 1933 by the ruling monarch of the time, King George V. The exterior features two giant gilded owls (an established symbol of Leeds) and roman columns at the entrance. Inside the hall, there are several great rooms such as the lavish Lord Mayor’s room, lined with English walnut and Algerian marble"
