At the weekend I was up in Yorkshire on one of my scheduled visits to spend time with my mother. She was in good form though a little tired on the Saturday, as she'd had a poor night of sleep on Friday, but we still got out-and-about.  ..And I only "snapped" once during the whole time there LOL.

When I arrived on Friday the car-hire company had decided to "up-grade" me, and so I ended up driving this car.  My sister christened me "boy-racer" for the duration, and it was very easy to locate in a car-park !!  On returning it on Monday I made everyone in the office laugh by saying that I was sure people would probably expect the car to be first off at traffic-lights etc so would be shocked to see me and my mother taking it all at a stately pace !   Franco ([livejournal.com profile] london1967) would say it's a "mid-life crisis car" !!

We surprised my sister by calling in at the cafe she runs in Leeds city centre, the church it's "attached" to I will post about in due course, on our way to what has turned into obligatory visit for a "Pensioner's Special" at Murgatroyd's.
Large Haddock, chips and mushy peas is my new favourite main course, I never have any room left for the included dessert LOL

On Saturday we drove to the outskirts of Harrogate to visit a fairly new venture called Fodder.  My sister took my mother a couple of weeks ago to see what it was like.... she's been raving about it ever since..... It's rather like an indoors Farmer's Market..... reminded me of San Francisco's Ferry Building market slightly...  They also have a cafe/restaurant .... the food was very good, service excellent too...

My "Farmer's Lunch".............

The interior........

The weather forecast was for snow on Sunday/Monday, which we got, but luckily not enough to cause any problems coming home to the lovely Franco !

.....and "who ate all the pies?" LOL, our newest garden visitor......

I'm just back from a(nother) planned visit "Up North" to see my mother, she was in good form, and we got out and about albeit to very familiar places in genera,l but she was very happy and got some important Christmas shopping done... everything seemed to fall into place.  As for me, the train journey both ways were a bit of a palaver due to broken down trains and broken tracks apparently. So it was delays (could have been worse) and overcrowded trains ( I got a seat at least) as Friday it was three trains worth of people on the one, and Monday four times ! So, last night after hugs and kisses from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] london1967 he poured me the first of two large G&Ts which, I must say, hit the spot immediately and celebrated being back home.

Out and about in the countryside we were surrounded by some glorious autumn colours, no photos could do justice, and the most spectacular were in the most difficult places to stop the car and snap..... though this gives an idea

As it has been so wet this year I think the leaves have stayed on the trees longer and had chance to "colour".

We did go in a slightly different direction on Saturday afternoon and followed some signs to East Riddleston Hall in the hope of a cup of tea, but sadly the house and cafe were closed (a new kitchen is being installed) but the grounds were open........... It does boast a number of ghosts, and has "that look" I think !  And I've never seen so many ducks together !

just a few of them

Murgatroyd is a very Yorkshire sounding surname, and as if it were a bit of a theme, Friday afternoon we went to Murgatroyds Fish and Chip restaurant (as usual)... my first time "officially" having a "pensioner's special" along with my mother, and then as I look up East Riddleston Hall I see it was built for a Murgatroyd !!

Henry always gives me a (not-too-pleased) look when I have my camera out......

and my mother was rather intrigued by the ornamental cabbages in the bunch of flowers I got her, I actually got them as there were some of her favourite coloured chrysanthemums in the bunch too.....

Now I really MUST catch up with LJ reading, but it will have to be tomorrow.....dinner is already burning in the oven !!!
